Reading in Bloom 2019 started to bloom at a special launch in the Hilton Hotel Reading on May 8.

Hosted by new chairman Marc Allridge of Cherubs Floral Design and attended by the Mayor of Reading Debs Edwards and other special guests Marc told the gathered audience of how this year's efforts will really merge communities with Reading in Bloom.

He said: "The judges last year said that despite challenges Reading in Bloom continues to thrive, linking spaces, features and activities across the town.

"Our aim this year is to work in partnerships to ensure Reading is a cleaner, safer and healthier place to work and visit. And to seek to create higher environmental awareness by all."

He spoke of maintaining partnerships with community groups and announced the new categories - Front Container Garden and The Wellbeing Garden for staff (more here).

He also spoke of the business partnerships in place already with AB Walker and the Crowne Plaza Hotel who fund the floral baskets on Reading and Caversham bridges. And he thanked Hilton manager John McLaughlin for his hospitality for the launch evening and the gala awards dinner later this year.

Reading in Bloom is self-funded with support from donations and personnnel support from Reading Borough Council.
